Animal Lover's Club
Founded by students who are currently active in 4H, Animal Lover's Club is all about animals. We meet twice a month and discuss a variety of topics ranging from animal husbandry, breeds and types of animals, their pets, and much more. This year they are incorporating meet ups to animal shelters and shows
Anime Club
The Anime club meets once a month to watch and discuss anime movies and their significance and impact on culture.
Game Appreciation Club
New this year! The Game appreciation club meets once a month to discuss the games they like to play, the games they are excited about, and the possible applications of games in education.
Book Club
At the start of each school year Book club pick a list of books they will read through out the year. Once a month they meet to discuss the current book.
Bowling “Club”
Bowling is more if an event than a club. Once a month students meet up to bowl and hang out with each other.
Game Design Club
The Game Design Club is all about getting your own designs the way you want them to be. We also talk about the new games and platforms that are coming out, as long as they are school appropriate. Students are also able to show off their designs and ideas.
Gay-Straight Alliance
The Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) started so that Beacon Academy students could: 1) create safe environments for students to support each other and learn about issues LBGT students face, 2) educate the school community about homophobia, bullying, gender identity and sexual orientation issues, 3) fight discrimination, harassment, and violence in schools. Last school year our GSA raised funds for and participated in the Las Vegas Aids Walk. This year they look to continue and expand their efforts to give back to the community and support the safe and tolerant atmosphere here at Beacon Academy.
Movie “Club”
Also more of an event than a club, the Movie Club meets once a month. The students pick a movie from a specific genera to watch and hang out.
Northern (Reno Area) and Southern (Las Vegas Area) Parenting Clubs
Created as a support system for any Beacon Academy student who is pregnant or parenting. We meet twice a month, in the evenings, to talk about community resources idea sharing, and support. In addition, community agencies are invited to come and talk about the resources they provide as well as information on parenting techniques.
Photography Club
Photography club meets once a month to discuss and share their latest photographic efforts, techniques and ways Photography can be used beyond a hobby. Once to Twice a year we host a gallery night for all of our Beacon artists to show off their talent and work.
Reno Events Group
New This Year! The Reno events group meets once a month to help plan and organize the Reno area events and ways to promote them to the students in that area.
Science and Forensics Club
We meet once a month and discuss all things science! Each month we will talk about a new topic or do activities related to that topic. From Genetics, to robotics, to earth science and biology, we learn about it all.
Science Fiction, Fantasy, & Horror Club
New this year! We meet twice a month to discuss our favorites in literature, movies, and pop culture.
Skills USA
SkillsUSA is a student professional organization that promotes technical skills, leadership, community service, personal development and training for future careers. Students are also prepped to compete with their peers at conferences with CCSD high schools in Nevada. Conferences include: Delegate and Leadership Conferences in the fall, State Conferences in the Spring, and the National Leadership and Skills Conference (for qualifiers) in June of each year.
Sports Club
Open to all Las Vegas students, Sports club meets once a month. Each meeting is a pick up game of a different sport.
Zombie Awareness Club
Born from the students love of all things Zombie, we have intelectial discussions about Zombie culture. We talk about movies, TV shows, make-up, "best zombie" ... the sky's the limit. Remember to Bring Your Own Brains once a month!
