Dear Students and Parents: Welcome to Beacon Academy of Nevada! We are proud to serve the students and families of Nevada as a state-wide online high school. As a charter school sponsored by the Nevada State Board of Education, Beacon Academy of Nevada provides a 21st Century education utilizing state of the art technology and communication tools. Students may study anywhere they have access to an internet connection. Our charter focuses on serving the diverse needs of Nevada's high school student population, and provides a variety of supports to help our students succeed in school and to prepare for college and the workplace. Our faculty and staff are committed to providing a high quality academic environment, as well as the mentoring and resources required by our students. We set high expectations, and provide the support for our students to reach their highest potential. I am pleased to be a part of such an innovative and caring school. I came to Beacon Academy of Nevada with a 15 year professional background as a teacher, a professional development trainer of teachers in the areas of multicultural education, Safe & Drug Free Schools, and creating after school and community education opportunities, as grant administrator for programs encompassing ages pre-school through adult, and a school principal. I believe that all students have the ability to learn and to achieve great things. Each individual has a unique set of challenges to address and overcome in order to reach their full potential. The key ingredient any student needs to succeed is the desire to reach their goals. During the course of my career in education, I have worked to insure that students and families have the support and resources necessary to create goals and to reach them. As Director of Educational Services at Beacon Academy of Nevada, I have the privilege and joy to help students achieve their dream of a high school diploma and a brighter future. I believe that virtual, online learning is most effective when there is the human element of communication, a connection with each and every student, and the active involvement of the student's family. Virtual learning is the future of education. There is a Nicaraguan proverb that says, "You make the road by walking it." At Beacon Academy of Nevada, we are making the road toward high school graduation and career paths a reality for hundreds of students!
