Beacon Academy of Nevada is proud to recognize Mr. Matt Gage as our Teacher of the Month for April 2012. Mr. Gage was born and raised in a small town in southeastern Idaho called Sugar City. His home town, where he attended Sugar-Salem High School, only had a population of about 1,200 people. When it came time for him to decide on where to go for college, he did not have to give it very much though. At the time, his father was an English professor at the local two-year college. This college was named Ricks College.
During his second year at Ricks College, the college underwent a transformation to a four-year university, and the name was changed to BYU-Idaho. As a result he remained there and graduated in 2006 earning his bachelor's degree in Health Education with a minor in English Education.
Upon graduation from BYU-Idaho, Mr. Gage started his teaching career at Durango High School in Las Vegas. While teaching at Durango High School he went on to earn a Master's of Education degree in Health Promotion from the University of Nevada – Las Vegas (UNLV).
Mr. Gage has been teaching English, in Nevada, for five years and has been with Beacon Academy since 2010 as an English II teacher. Mr. Gage is also certified to teach health classes.
Mr. Gage met his wife, Cori, in 2007. He was set up on a blind date by some mutual friends and the rest is history. After dating for about a year, the Gages were married in 2008. In June of 2010 they were blessed with their first child, a son named Jackson, and they are expecting their second child in October of this year.
In his spare time, when he is not enjoying teaching, he enjoys watching college basketball and running. Mr. Gage is an avid runner and has completed six half-marathons and have set a goal to run at least three each per year. Mr. Gage enjoys spending time at home with his wife and son and traveling to St. George, Utah to spend time with family there.
Please join us in recognizing a highly dedicated, understanding and caring teacher, Mr. Matt Gage, as our teacher of the month for April 2012.
