Ms. Shannon Fort is our Teacher of the Month for May 2013.
Born in Texas, she grew up on a small island south of Seattle, Washington called Raft Island. She is a graduate of Brigham Young University – Idaho with a Bachelor’s degree in math education. In her spare time she loves to travel all over the world
As a math teacher, Ms. Fort shines. Her love of teaching and the care she has for her students is clearly demonstrated by her ability to help students understand challenging math concepts and ideas which, helps these students not only pass their math classes but help prepare them for the Math High School Proficiency Exam. She not only does this for her students but for all math students here at Beacon Academy.
In the tutoring room, she oversees the conduct of the tutoring activities and works with those students needing help in math. In preparation for the annual High School Proficiency Exams she conducts special face-to-face and virtual tutoring sessions that have enabled a number of students, who had previously failed the test, pass it with excellent scores.
Ms. Fort works with all the other math teachers in her department keeping them up-to-date on events and activities and helping them address any issues that may come up in their classes.
In addition to all of this, she plans many activities for our students such as Pi (P) Day and Parenting Club. She also actively participates in many other events such including movie club, school-sponsored parties and prom.
